Tuesday, June 30

Tuesday is market day in Baarn. The town is maybe 1 1/2 miles from the house and Linda likes to walk, so off we go. We leave around 10 and even though it will be in the 80's later, the temperature is good at that time of day.

Most of the walk is along a shaded road with houses on both sides.

Today people are out working in their yards and there lots of bike riders zooming by. As always, we need to be careful and stay off of the bike lanes.

Heidi liked these trees that are being trained to grow along a frame and line part of the yard. She might want to do something like that on the side of her new house to block out the neighbor's stuff. Linda took these pictures and we plan on showing them to someone at the garden center to find out what kinds of trees they are for Heidi to buy in Maryland.

We strolled through the market, bought a cabbage from a rude vendor and a cock (rooster) already cooked for dinner. We ate burgers at one of the cafes that ring the market square. The burgers came on tremendously large buns which we ditched. They looked awfully good but were just too much plus they contained gluten.

After eating, Linda went back to one of the market vendors and purchased a skirt she had been eyeing. Now, we'll need to find a top that goes with it. Maybe tomorrow.

When we walk to Baarn, we take the train back. On our way to the train station we walked through a park that obviously allows dogs.

Back at the house, we sat in the garden and read. Linda fried the cabbage with onions and we sat in front of the TV and ate the cock and veggies.

We invited Liesbeth and Peter to come over after dinner for a little wine. We sat in the garden and enjoyed their company and the cool of the evening. Peter will formally start his transition into retirement tomorrow (July 1). That's going to change his life. He plans on keeping his company car which the firm allows him to buy for a discount. Noor showed up for a few minutes and Linda gave her a cookie. I'm not sure what Duco was doing.

Linda bought this print in Amsterdam before the cruise and plans to hang it in our Washington condo. We think we'll buy some tulip curtains to frame the large glass window/slider in DC and this will tie it all together.
