June 6:

Linda was tired and slept in. So, our start was even slower than normal. The entire time we have been here, she has been looking up at what looks like a small village on the hill and wanted to go there. We decided today was the day.

We didn't know exactly how to get there, but it didn't take us long to find the one road to it. It came as no surprise that the road was steep and narrow. Toward the end of the road, we needed to fold in the side mirrors to keep from hitting buildings on both sides.

This is pretty standard road conditions out in the countryside of Italy.

As we approached the complex, I don't really want to call it a town, it looked like ruins. It was hard for us to estimate how old these structures were.

Once we found a small parking area and started walking around, it was obvious the place was an artist commune or village.

Looking up.                                             Looking down.

Don't miss me in this picture.

The name of this place was named Campello sul Clitunno.

It also seemed to have some religious connection - maybe some patron saint. We didn't have a tour guide.

And even a restaurant that wasn't open.

There were steep small paths throughout and each door had a number on it and many had some type of sculpture.

And then there was the view of the valley below.

After taking lots of pictures, we decided to try driving back down. Along the way we found this camper parked in someone's driveway.

We asked ourselves if I feel a little uptight driving our little Lancia on these paths, what does this guy feel like with this huge thing.

As we headed down, we came upon what looked like a developer's sign advertising a new development. From the picture on the sign and some of the buildings behind it, it looked like the builder was trying to integrate the old and new.

This is what we saw as we continued down into the valley.

We drove back to the farm and broke out our last nibbles for cocktail hour. Finished the vodka, sausage, Pringles and most of the pickles. After that, we ate dinner finishing the leeks and potatoes and burger meat and mushrooms. That just about took care of the refrigerator contents.

We're ready to head out to Venice tomorrow.
