Tuesday - My wife has returned, so life is good. She had a wonderful time with her girlfriends, Joy and Diane, in southern France. Now its time to start thinking about leaving to come home to Bradenton, Florida, after spending the summer in Holland. We see more each year, but there is always more that we find out about as we run out of time. Maybe next year.

Saturday, August 30 - Monday, September 1, 2014

Saturday - I was invited over for coffee this morning to some friends of Kees and Joke who live in Baarn, the next town over. She, Diane, was born in England, but has lived in The Netherlands for the last 45 years. He, Eric, was born in Venezuela and lived there for 9 years until coming to this country. A very interesting couple. They live on the river and have a small cruising boat at their backdoor. They are interested in a home exchange, but don't really want to come to Florida's summer heat. But, if someone was interested in a different time of year, I think they would like to talk. He will be retiring in 3 months, so they will be more free to travel.

While I was there, two women came by to use their dock to enter the river and practice swimming for an event in Amsterdam next month. People swim about 8 kms in the Amsterdam canals to raise money for ALS research. I was impressed.

This evening I ate dinner with Peter and Liesbeth, next door. She served mussels and a salad and some Dutch potatoes for me instead of the bread that everyone else got. Very thoughtful. Later, still at the table, Liesbeth's sister and her sister's fiance came by. It was a nice visit. He's the one who owns the "farm" that we stopped by on our way back from Hamburg.

Sunday - I spent the day watching Netflix movies. I'm getting addicted to House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey. Its a copy of the British original about a majority whip who is cynical and power-hungry. Its shot on location in Washington, D.C. and for anyone who knows DC, its interesting.

Monday -   The weather had turned nice with lots of sun. I did a load of wash and cleaned up a little. Starting to think about leaving.

I ate dinner with Jose and Hans down the street. She served goulash, rice, a salad, homemade applesauce and a fruit dish for dessert. A really nice visit. They really go out of their way to make us feel at home. And now Peter and Liesbeth and Hans and Jose know how to fix us food we can eat on our special diet. We need to have them over.
