Wednesday, July 9 - Thursday, July 10, 2014

Wednesday - First thing to say - bummer, they lost. Not only did the Dutch soccer team lose, but they made me stay up until 1:00 am again for extra time and penalty kicks. Very disheartening. Do I really want to watch Germany and Argentina on Sunday?  We'll see.

Now that that is out of the way, we drove over to Weijntjes Hang-en Sluitwerk in Utrecht and purchased a doorbell just like Kees and Joke have installed at their front door.

It is a real bell activated by a pull rod from the outside and hooked to a couple of levers by chains that rings a brass bell. It will be unique in Bradenton.

We drove over there and back using mostly country roads instead of the highways and didn't use the Garmin. It rained the whole way over and back but we made it and didn't get lost. After four years, we are finally learning our way around.

After dinner we went for a little walk in the rain around several blocks near the house. Here is what part of the community looks like.

This is our street: Irenelaan.

This a house a few blocks away.
This is Bill waiting at the front door of the house in the rain.

Thursday - Linda had scheduled a sax lesson with Peter Liebermon in Baarn, just 10 minutes down the road. She learned alot in a 45 minute lesson that lasted over an hour. He taught her a new way to breathe.

The teacher's street was decorated for the World Cup. Signs in the windows, flags drapped across the street, poles wrapped with orange paper, and in one case, an orange windmill in the front yard. Real fans lived on this street.

Then we drove over to the center of town and wandered around. Linda was looking a ruffle and found what she wanted in a fabric store. She just didn't know how much she needed. We would have to come back. I don't think she thought she would really find a fabric store. We also found places for pedicures and Thai massages. Maybe next week when we return from England.

The day had turned warm and sultry. Where the market is set up on Tuesdays, was a platform with multiple water fountains shooting out for the kids to play. Its behind the horse statue.

After lunch at the house we walked downtown for my espresso and Linda's sparkling water at Joh Met's. Here's the view taken from

our normal seating area - one of the couches.

This is what part of Soest looks like.

Lidl is our discount grocery store with the best prices but the smallest selection.

I sent Linda down to the butcher to buy some lamb and she came back with ribs. We were going to buy some ready-made cole slaw but it was made with yogurt. So, Linda made a salad to go with the ribs. After dinner, Frank Renzenbrink and his new wife, Evelyn came by to drop off some boxes of flooring. It gave us a chance to see Frank for the second time and meet Evelyn. Both very nice. But, we knew they would be. She is from Baarn.
