Tuesday, August, 5 - Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Tuesday - Today was rest day and we stayed near the house. Reading and writing our blogs and a little grocery shopping to restock the kitchen. In the afternoon, we walked over to Soest Zuid, past the windmill to the health food store. We walked back along the main street, bought a couple of jigsaw puzzles for Linda and Frank to play with and a few more groceries.

Drinks in the garden and then a fish dinner in the garden. Finished the day watching Mamma Mia.

Wednesday - Kees had suggested that we visit the train museum in Utrecht. We decided to take a look at it today. Utrecht is just down the road and we were able to park almost at the front door of the museum. We were surprised just how much there was in the museum. So many full size engines and cars. And, so much in English - how cool.

The first locomotive in The Netherlands was built in England. Then, they had to import an Englishman to operate it.
They interweaved the history of the railways in The Netherlands with the development of the technology of the steam engine and extending railways throughout the country. They showed how the first railway was built from Amsterdam to Haarlem and then to Delft and then farther. It was all very interesting.

A little artwork.

It was a rainy day, so we drove back to Soest and ate lunch at "home". There was time for naps and then drinks and dinner. A slow day, but we did checkout the trains. Tomorrow we are off to Hamburg and the huge model train museum. It should be quite a contrast  with what we saw today.
